Whether through another doctor’s referral or self-referral, seeing a physical therapist can help you prevent injury, reduce muscle pain or discomfort and help you return to the pain-free lifestyle you were previously accustomed to.

At Moriarty Physical Therapy, our team of qualified clinical doctors is here to help you prevent injury or get you back to peak mobility.

How Our Physical Therapists Can Help You

Our physical therapists are trained professionals who collaborate with your medical team to evaluate, treat and rehabilitate your injury. We can also work with you to help prevent injuries before they happen.

While some patients are referred to physical therapists by their doctor, you can also get direct access to our services by seeking a physical therapist on your own and still have it covered by insurance. Unlike most physical therapists, we accept all insurances, including Blue Cross/Blue Shield and Medicare, and no referrals are needed. There is no reason to wait if your want to improve your mobility, posture, flexibility, or overall athletic performance.

Our physical therapists help patients by creating customized preventative programs and rehabilitation plans. Whether you want to get back on your feet or stay on them, we’re here for you. From professional athletes to weekend warriors, we can create a custom preventative program to help you achieve better functionality.

Why Work With a Physical Therapist

Working with a physical therapist is beneficial for people of all ages and medical conditions.

When you work with Moriarty Physical Therapy, you can always expect the highest level of 1:1 care, complete with a customized rehab program specifically designed to help improve your ability to move and function better. We can also help you reduce the chances of an injury with our customized injury prevention programs.

A few of the benefits of physical therapy include the following:

#1 – Improve your mobility.

Whether you’re having trouble recovering from a sports injury or are trying to improve your general mobility, we can customize an individual care plan to maximize your mobility while keeping your safety in mind.

#2 – Safely recover from a sports injury.

Soccer players to track athletes use physical therapists to help them recover faster and smarter from sports injuries. Our physical therapists know and understand various sports and the injuries that can occur, and we can customize a recovery program to ensure your safe return to your sport.

#3 – Improve your balance.

As we age, our balance can be thrown off. Those suffering from certain neurological conditions or vertigo can also have balance issues. Our therapists can assess whether you’re at a greater risk for falls and then carefully customize a rehab program.

#4 – Prevent injuries.

If you live an active lifestyle, you know there’s always the possibility of an injury. Physical therapy helps take your injury prevention to the next level. Studies have shown that a history of previous injuries increases your chance of a future injury. Our doctors can create an injury prevention plan custom-tailored to your type and level of activity.

Physical Therapy for Tendonitis

Tendonitis is common and is characterized by the inflammation of a tendon. While it can occur in any tendons, tendonitis is most commonly found around the knees, shoulders, elbows, wrists, and heels.

Examples of tendonitis include:

  • Swimmer’s Shoulder
  • Tennis Elbow
  • Pitcher’s Shoulder
  • Jumper’s Knee
  • Golfer’s Elbow

Physical therapy is incredibly effective at treating and resolving tendonitis, so schedule a consultation if you think you may have tendonitis or have been diagnosed with tendinitis by a physician.

Our team will examine to assess both the location and the cause of the tendonitis. Following the examination, we will prescribe a customized program that incorporates treatment for localized inflammation while addressing mobility and strength dysfunctions in the areas affecting the injured tendon.

Benefits of Physical Therapy in Treating Tendonitis

While injury can cause tendonitis, the condition is more often caused by repetitive movement over time (think of someone who swings a golf club or a tennis racket). This repetitive movement puts added stress on the tendons.

Anyone can get tendonitis. We also provide preventative physical therapy to help everyone, from joggers to professional athletes. Prevention can include strengthening and mobilizing common trouble areas prone to tendonitis.

While medications may help reduce inflammation, physical therapy is an effective way to treat and manage tendonitis, maybe even reducing your chances of needing additional treatment or even surgery down the line.

Physical Therapy Treatment for Shoulder Pain

One of the most common types of patients we treat are those experiencing shoulder pain or who may be recovering from shoulder injuries.

People experience shoulder pain differently and for any number of reasons. We can work with you and/or your healthcare provider to provide you with a comprehensive physical therapy plan that relieves shoulder pain.

Give us a call today to learn more or to set up an appointment.

Common Problems Affecting the Shoulder

Your shoulder is a complex joint that includes and connects to multiple body parts, including the collar bone, shoulder blade, upper arm, and chest wall.

Your shoulder is also one of the most overused parts of your body. Think about how often you lift your arms to carry something, put something away, do your hair, etc. Shoulder issues often arise due to overuse, injury, or underuse.

We also offer preventative physical therapy treatments. Maintenance and preemptive care are the best ways to avoid injuries before they happen.

A few common shoulder problems include:

  • Shoulder dislocation
  • Tendinitis
  • Bursitis
  • Torn rotator cuff
  • Shoulder fracture
  • Arthritis

Sciatica Physical Therapy Treatment

Often characterized by severe pain that runs down the leg, sciatica pain can occur for a number of reasons, including injury, disc compression, a narrowing of the spine, and more.

The actual pain that is felt and other associated symptoms result from nerves that are irritated due to compression or tension on the nerve.

Our doctors will work 1:1 with you, starting with a physical exam to help find the cause of your sciatic pain in our Raleigh office. Based on the outcome of our exam and the severity of your pain, we may work with you, using a range of exercises, strength training, and advanced manual techniques to reduce pain and improve your overall function. We can also work with you in preventative therapy, which may help you avoid sciatica pain altogether.

Exercises and Advances Manual Techniques for Sciatica

One of the best ways to relieve sciatica pain is general strength training and mobility exercises. For example, having a strong core can offer relief from sciatic pain because your core muscles support your spine and help ensure that it is aligned properly. When your spine is aligned correctly, you are less prone to injury/pain.

We encourage the use of a variety of strengthening and mobility exercises because they help strengthen your spine and help strengthen and support all of the surrounding muscles, ligaments, and tendons.

Advanced manual techniques are also important for finding relief from sciatic pain. These techniques use the passive or active assisted movements of an experienced practitioner.
